Restoration of historic listed wall

Sector : Heritage

Client : Major national charitable trust
Site : Grade I listed Jacobean house with extensive historic gardens in Northamptonshire countryside

Logistical complications led to the roots of protected trees being compromised by the restoration of the existing foundations of a listed wall. This in turn resulted in serious concern over the structural integrity of the trees - a fine avenue of mature limes covered by a Tree Preservation Order.

FDA Ltd were commissioned to inspect the trees and their roots; assess their structural integrity; and provide recommendations on how to ensure the successful retention of this significant landscape feature, while allowing the restoration of the structure to continue with minimal delay or excessive additional cost.

FDA Ltd prescribed a program of practical and sequential working techniques to overcome the difficulties. We liaised with the property manager, landscape manager, and construction/engineering team to ensure the successful implementation of the works with negligible delay or additional cost to the project.
